      Of course! In fact, our beginner classes are an excellent way to get into shape. Not only will you learn the essential skills of self-defense, but you will also focus on muscle strengthening and endurance, cardio, and flexibility.

    • How long does it take to obtain a black belt?

      This varies for each individual however it is usually between 8 and 15 years.

    • Is Jiu-Jitsu effective against other styles of martial arts?

      In MMA (mixed martial arts) competitions, Gracie Jiu-Jitsu has consistently proved its supremacy.

    • What are some of the physical benefits of training Jiu-Jitsu?

      Jiu-Jitsu will improve conditioning, strength, coordination, flexibility and overall reflexes. Jiu-Jitsu will also provide you with skills in self defense, self-confidence, and instill the abiliity to relax and maintain control in the face of obstacles both on and off the mat. Students of Jiu-Jitsu will develop courage, integrity, humility and self control. Skills that are taught at Delaware Jiu-Jitsu will be effective in both self-defense and for sport and tournament Jiu-Jitsu.

    • Is Jiu-Jitsu beneficial for women?

      Jiu-Jitsu is excellent for self-defense. Strategic grips and proper application of leverage and body weight distribution will allow women to escape from attackers standing or on the ground.

    • Do I have to enter competitions?

      Competition is always completely optional. For those that wish to compete, Delaware Jiu-Jitsu has an excellent competition team.
